Summer Crafting at Meadowbrooke!

Summer Crafting at Meadowbrooke!

Summer officially arrived last week! School is out, hot weather is here, vacations have begun, and family has started to visit from all over. I wanted to let you know of an exciting new opportunity that is happening here at the farm. We have heard over the last year about customers wanting to come to the farm to craft gourds at times other than when we have our Create Your Own events and classes. We decided to open our classroom on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer for this to happen.

Starting July 5th, our classroom will be open on Tuesdays from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm and Thursdays 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. You do not need to call ahead to reserve your spot, just show up. For those that come on a Tuesday, you have the bonus, if you wish to, of going on our public tour after crafting at 2:00. Our tour takes you back through our three main production areas where you will get to see our employees doing what they do every day. You will also get a little history of how Meadowbrooke Gourds began and what our farming process looks like. If you have never been on our tour, I highly recommend it! It really is unique what we do and helps you understand how many hands touch each gourd that we craft.

The classroom is open only during the times that are listed. Doors will close at 2:00 on Tuesdays and 4:00 on Thursdays. I would allow yourself at least 45 minutes to complete your gourd, longer if you are doing detailed work. Here is what you can expect when you come to craft:

  • You will decide which kit(s) from our crafter’s corner or raw gourd area you would like to craft and purchase them in our retail store. You can also purchase additional accessories from the store.
  • Take your purchase to the classroom and find a seat.
  • We will provide paints, brushes, water, paper towels, aprons, glue, and most things to complete your gourd craft. You are welcome to bring your own paints, brushes, and accessories along if you wish.
  • We will have a host available to help answer questions you may have as you are crafting.
  • This is open to all ages but children under sixteen must have an adult present while they are crafting
  • Now all you need is a little imagination and creativity to make your gourd or gourds completely yours and then the crafting begins!
  • When you finish, we will bag up your project (if it is not too wet) and you will be on your way. It is that simple but loads of fun!

This is a wonderful way to make one-of-a-kind gifts, introduce friends and family to Meadowbrooke Gourds, and help with the summer boredom that creeps in with the kids being home all day. Hope you can make it out to one of our open sessions to create your own one-of-a-kind gourd!
